Sri Lanka paves way for India-Pakistan Naval Chiefs to meet
At the invitation of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral
Thisara Samarsinghe, Navy Commanders and representatives of 21 navies
arrived in Sri Lanka to participate in the Sri Lanka Navy’s 60th
War ships from China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Thailand and Russia too arrived in the island to take part in this historic event in response to his request. Sending of their ships for this event by the two veto power holding nations, Russia and China, was a significant feature. It manifests the strong friendly ties Sri Lanka has with other countries and also bears testimony to the important role played by the Sri Lanka Navy towards the strengthening of Sri Lanka’s foreign relations.
During the ceremony, Indian Navy Commander Admiral Nirmal Verma and Pakistan Navy Commander Admiral Noman Bashir had the opportunity to meet each other and exchange pleasantries. The happy union took place in the presence of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe who played host to the two neighbouring nations.
