60th Anniversary celebrations - Navy organizes international Band Fiesta and Cultural Show
Another grand event, the international band fiesta and the cultural show organized by the Sri Lanka Navy to celebrate its 60th Anniversary was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium yesterday (08th December 2010) evening. The bands of the Sri Lanka Army and Air force along with the bands of Bangladesh, India, Iran and Pakistan also participated in this colorful event. The secretary to his exellency the president Mr.Lalith Werrathunga and the Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa graced this occasion as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor respectively. Service commanders and VVIPs along with a large gathering of service personnel, their families and crew members of visiting foreign naval ships witnessed the band fiesta.
In accordance with the guidance of the Commander of the Navy this event was held in a specially designed stage which depicts the naval environment and the state of the art sounds and lighting arrangements were also used along with an exclusive stage management in order to make it a fantastic fusion of eastern and western music.
The Sri Lanka Navy band performed a vast spectrum of musical and traditional dancing items whilst the overseas bands also shared the stage with them time to time. Musical items depicting the customs of the diverse cultures of Sri Lanka were well received by those present. The music and the dancing were directed by Captain Jude Peiris and the compeering was done by Captain Athula Senarath.
Delivering the welcome address the commander of the Navy paid gratitude to the audience and to everybody who contributed in many ways. Further describing this wonderful occasion in which the bands from number of Navies shared one stage to show their performances he emphasized the fact that how united the militaries as well as people can be.
